Despite a light covering of spring snow here in Grimsby, it is time to consider what we are doing to prepare for our season start on Sunday April 8. One major task has been completed. Your schedule is overleaf. You have about one month to be fit enough to (i) enjoy your first outing and (ii) to properly support the efforts of your brothers on the field of play. Only you can determine what action is to be taken. How about some sensible training with your local rugby club? This is your opportunity to lend some support if only at the bar. Don’t have a strong club affiliation?……then join West Lincoln RFC on Saturdays at 1 p.m. in Grimsby which is geographically central for our region. Call me for directions.

New members. We always need these. Statistics show that in our age group we shall lose 2.065 players to injury, 0.766 to alcoholism and 1.704 to death per season. I am reluctant to ask you to thwart God’s efforts so be certain to encourage your friends and old rugby colleagues to join us and help top-up the numbers.

Annual subscription. Make Wayne’s life easier by bringing $25 with you to the first game. Note that unlike energy costs the Vintage is holding the line on this meager contribution.

Golf shirts. After many months of research, Mark has not only decided on a suitable design but has satisfied your desires. He has them available right now for only $20 each. We shall be assigning a portion of your payment to a fund that will be for supporting good causes such as junior rugby. We believe that the time has arrived in our club history to start paying back…this fund is a symbol of that.

Our letter is being mailed to 49 people, the extent of our mailing list. Of these 13 we did not see at all last year not to a game, nor training nor post-game drinking. 25 we can call regular players and 7 casual players. Just because you were unable to be with us in 2000 does not mean that you are out of our thoughts. So if you want to enjoy the rugby scene make note of the schedule and try to get out to see us.

Email. I recently sent an email to emailable members. A full half dozen were returned …. undeliverable. That means that there has been a change in your email address including erasure of same, possibly change of employment. Please send me an email so that I can keep the mailing list up-to-date.
